On Jan. 7, 2022, we will announce the winner of the 2021 TIAA Paul A. Samuelson Award for Outstanding Scholarly Writing on Lifelong Financial Security. The Samuelson Award—named in honor of the Nobel Prize-winning economist and former CREF Trustee—is given annually by the TIAA Institute to recognize outstanding research that helps advance Americans’ lifelong financial well-being. Since 1996, the Samuelson Award has become the premier acknowledgement of excellence in research on financial security.
Last year the independent panel of judges gave the award to Ralph S.J. Koijen of The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and Stijn G. Van Nieuwerburgh of Columbia University for their paper “Combining Life and Health Insurance” published in The Quarterly Journal of Economics. This year’s winner(s) will be named at a special presentation during the 2022 virtual annual meeting of the Allied Social Science Associations.
