2022 TIAA Paul A. Samuelson Award Ceremony

January 6, 2023
New Orleans, LA

On Jan. 6, 2023, we will announce the winner of the 2022 TIAA Paul A. Samuelson Award for Outstanding Scholarly Writing on Lifelong Financial Security. The Samuelson Award—named in honor of the Nobel Prize-winning economist and former CREF Trustee—is given annually by the TIAA Institute to recognize outstanding research that helps advance Americans’ lifelong financial well-being. Since 1996, the Samuelson Award has become the premier acknowledgment of excellence in research on financial security.

Last year the independent panel of judges gave the award to Pascal Noel, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and Peter Ganong, The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy, for their paper “Liquidity versus Wealth in Household Debt Obligations: Evidence from Housing Policy in the Great Recession” published in American Economic Review 2020, 110(10): 3100–3138.

This year’s winner(s) will be named at a special presentation during the 2023 annual meeting of the Allied Social Science Associations. To learn more about the Samuelson Award and its past recipients, who include four Nobel laureates, visit our Awards page.
