Laurita Thomas is the associate vice president for human resources at the University of Michigan, where she is responsible for human resource policy for all UM campuses and a full range of comprehensive integrated human resource services, products and operations. She oversees a staff of 330 people, a budget of $36 million, and a benefit plan of approximately $1 billion.
Thomas’s human resources career spans roles in the financial industry, higher education and healthcare. She has served as a leader in HR professional organizations and on numerous community service boards. She earned her B.A. at the University of Michigan in political science and economics and has done graduate work in guidance and counseling and business administration.

- Charter member and treasurer of the AAU Human Resource Institute and national board member of CUPA-HR.
- Served on the Mayor’s Commission on increasing safety for women and the Executive Committee of the Washtenaw County Workforce Development Board.
